In this article you'll learn about how to create a recording using the Claap Desktop App.

πŸ’‘ Check out the following article if you have not yet installed the Desktop App: Install the Claap Desktop App

Open the Desktop App

In your macOS Applications, click on Claap:

You can then start a recording as follows:

  1. Click on the Claap icon in your macOS menu bar

  2. Click on Record video

This displays the Claap popup:

Configure your recording settings

From the popup, you have many options to configure your recording:

General settings

  1. Workspace: Select the workspace in which you want to record your video.

  2. Inbox: Access your Claap Inbox by clicking on the Inbox icon.

  3. Preferences: Click on the βš™ to open the Preferences panel:

    1. Display recording countdown:

This enables the "3-2-1" countdown shown on the screen before the recording actually starts when you click on Record video.

    2. About Claap:

Recording-specific settings

  1. What to record:

Options include your Full Screen or a specific Window:

  2. Camera and Microphone sources:

Select video and microphone sources. By default, your built-in webcam and microphone are selected. Select Camera off and/or Microphone off if you do not want to record your video or mic.

  3. Add to channel:

(Optional) Categorize your claap in a channel.

  4. Effects:

(Optional) Select camera filters to be applied.

Once satisfied with your settings, click Record video.

πŸ’‘ Your settings are automatically saved for your next recording.

Select the screen to record

A window is displayed so you can select the screen or application window you would like to record. You can record:

  • Entire screen: Your entire screen. If you have several monitors they will each be shown here.

  • Window: A specific application window of your desktop.

Control your recording experience

During the recording, an overlay is displayed at the bottom left of the screen. It provides options to control the recording:

  • Stop and Save: saves your recording

  • Pause: pauses the recording. Resume the recording by clicking again on the button

  • Pin this moment: lets you add a timestamped bookmark in the comments section of the recording

  • Restart: restarts the current recording with the same settings

  • Delete: discards the recording without saving it

πŸ’‘ The self-camera can be dragged and dropped anywhere on the screen, before and during the recording.

Keyboard shortcuts

Add a comment: Ctrl + Shift + C

Stop the recording: Ctrl + Shift + Enter

Pause the recording: Ctrl + Shift + Space

Save your recording

Once you’re done with your recording, click on the Save button. This redirects you to the Claap app where you can review your recording and share it with teammates.

Tip: Assign the Claap app to "All Desktops"

If you use several virtual "Desktops" on your Mac, we highly recommend to assign the Claap app to All Desktops in order to have the camera overlay follow you as you switch between your different desktops during your recording:

Right-click on the Claap icon > Options > Assign To All Desktops
