How to record a video using the Claap Chrome Extension

Record with or without a bot using the Claap Chrome Extension.

In this article you'll learn about how to create a recording using the Claap Chrome Extension.

Open the Extension popup

There are several options to open the Claap Extension popup in order to start a recording. Here are the most common ways:

  1. Click on the Claap Extension icon in the Chrome bar:

  2. Click on the "New recording" button in the lateral bar in the Claap webapp

  3. Type 'N' on your keyboard from anywhere in the Claap webapp.

  4. Click on an embedded Record a video button on specific websites.

  5. Click on Record a video from the Claap Widget on specific websites:

Configure your recording

From the Extension popup, you have many options to configure your recording:

General settings:

  1. Workspace: Select the workspace in which you want to record your video.

  2. Inbox: Access your Claap Inbox by clicking on the Inbox icon.

  3. Preferences: Click on the to open the Extension Preferences panel:

    1. Display recording countdown:

      This enables the "3-2-1" countdown shown on the screen before the recording actually starts when you click on Record video.

    2. Display the Claap Widget:

      This enables the widget to be shown on specific websites for a quick way to start a recording.

    3. Enable website integrations:

      This enables website integrations, displaying a Claap Record a video button on specific integrated websites.

    4. Record meetings with a bot:

      This will send a bot to the meeting you are trying to record instead of recording directly with the Extension

    5. About Claap:

Recording-specific settings

  1. What to record:

    Options include your Full Screen, a specific Window, the Current Tab, or your Camera Only:

  2. Camera and Microphone sources:

    Select video and microphone sources. By default, your built-in webcam and microphone are selected. Select Camera off and/or Microphone off if you do not want to record your video or mic.

  3. Add to channel:

    (Optional) Categorize your claap in a channel. You can select an existing channel or create a new one.

  4. Effects:

    (Optional) Select camera filters to be applied.

  5. Canvas:

    (Optional) Open a canvas page to add a background and some context to your recording:

Once satisfied with your settings, click Record video .

💡 Your settings are automatically saved for your next recording.

Select the screen to record

Depending on your selected settings, your browser may display the screen selector to indicate which screen, window, or tab you would like to record. You can record:

  • Entire screen: Your entire screen.

  • Window: A specific window of your desktop.

  • Chrome tab: A specific Chrome tab. Make sure to tick the checkbox “Share tab audio” when you want to record the sound of the tab:

Once you click on the Share button, you are prompted by a 3 seconds Countdown. Once the countdown is over, relax, breathe, and... this is it! You’re recording!

⚠️ Please note you can't record your camera when you are recording an application other than the Chrome browser.

Control your recording experience

During the recording, an extension overlay is displayed at the bottom left of the screen. It provides options to control the recording:

  • Stop and Save: saves your recording

  • Pause: pauses the recording. Resume the recording by clicking again on the button

  • Pin this moment: lets you add a timestamped bookmark in the comments section of the recording

  • Restart: restarts the current recording with the same settings

  • Delete: discards the recording without saving it

💡 The extension overlay can be dragged and dropped anywhere on the screen, before and during the recording.

Keyboard shortcuts

Add a comment: Ctrl + Shift + C

Stop the recording: Ctrl + Shift + Enter

Pause the recording: Ctrl + Shift + Space

Save your recording

Once you’re done with your recording, click on the Save button. This redirects you to the Claap app where you can review your recording and share it with teammates.
