Recording Stuck in Processing? Let's Get It Back.

You recorded something, hit Save, and now it's just... spinning. Don't panic, your video is most likely still sitting safely on your computer, waiting to be rescued. Here's how to get it back.

Heads up: This only applies to recordings made with the Chrome Extension. If you used the Claap Bot, this guide isn't for you.

The recording appears stuck at the state shown below:

Two Ways to Recover Your Recording

Option 1: Rescue it from the Extension (recommended)

This works even if you've already closed the recording page. As long as you're on the same computer, the video file is likely still stored locally.

Right-click the Claap icon in your Chrome toolbar and select Troubleshooting.

In the panel that opens, find your recording under Videos and hit Download to save it to your computer.

Then head to Claap and re-upload the file following the upload instructions.

A brand new recording will appear in your Claap Library, good as new.

Option 2: Extract the video from the open recording page

This one only works if the stuck recording page is still open in your browser, don't close it!

Keep the tab open and follow the steps in this Claap recovery video to extract the video using the blob:http URL shown in the page. One important caveat: you need to paste the URL into the same browser you recorded in, it won't work across different browsers or profiles.

Confirm it's fixed

For Option 1, the downloaded file plays back correctly on your computer, and the re-uploaded recording loads in your Claap Library without a spinning indicator.

For Option 2, the extracted file opens and plays correctly in the same browser.

Why it happens ?

When you record with the Chrome Extension, Claap stores the video locally on your computer first, then uploads it to its servers via a pinned tab that appears during the recording. If that pinned tab gets closed before the upload finishes or if your internet connection drops mid-recording the transfer fails and the recording gets stuck.

The golden rule: don't close the pinned Claap tab until it closes on its own. That's Claap's way of telling you the upload is done. It appears to the left of all your other tabs during a recording, and closing it early is the most common cause of this issue.

  • A Claap recording made with the Chrome Extension shows a "processing" spinner and never completes

  • The recording page exists in Claap but the video never loads after more than 10 minutes

Do not close the pinned tab manually doing so interrupts the transfer and causes an incomplete, unprocessed recording.

Escalate If Unresolved

If neither recovery option works and the recording remains stuck, contact Claap support with the following information:

  • The URL of the stuck recording page

  • Approximate recording duration and file size (if known)

  • Whether the Claap pinned tab was closed before the upload completed

  • Whether the internet connection was interrupted during recording or upload

  • A screenshot of the stuck recording page
