Fix Chrome Extension recording stuck in processing

Open the Claap Chrome Extension, right-click it in the Chrome toolbar, select [Troubleshooting], find the recording under [Videos], download it, then re-upload it to Claap. Verify by confirming the new recording appears in your Claap Library and plays back correctly.

Symptoms

  • A Claap recording made with the Chrome Extension shows a "processing" spinner and never completes

  • The recording page exists in Claap but the video never loads after more than 10 minutes

  • The recording appears stuck at the state shown below:

Environment

  • Applies to recordings made with the Claap Chrome Extension only (not the Claap Bot)

  • Occurs in any Chrome browser where the Claap extension is installed

  • Most common when the Claap pinned tab was closed before the upload completed, or when the internet connection was interrupted during recording or upload

Step-by-Step Fix

Option 1: Recover via the Extension Troubleshooting page

Chrome Extension recordings are temporarily stored on your computer before uploading to Claap's servers. If the upload failed, the recording may still be available locally.

  1. Locate the Claap extension icon in your Chrome toolbar.

  2. Right-click the Claap extension icon and select [Troubleshooting].

  3. In the Troubleshooting panel, find your recording listed under the [Videos] section.

  4. Click [Download] to save the recording to your computer.

  5. Go to Claap and upload the downloaded file following the Upload instructions. This creates a new recording in your Claap Library containing the recovered video.

Option 2: Extract the video from the open recording page

This option only works if the recording page is still open in your browser from when the recording was made.

  1. Keep the stuck recording page open, do not close or navigate away from it.

  2. Follow the steps in this Claap recovery video to extract the video using the blob:http URL shown in the page.

  3. Copy the full blob:http URL and paste it into the same browser this does not work across different browsers or browser profiles.

Note: This workaround only works for recordings made with the Claap Chrome Extension.

Confirm It's Fixed

  • The downloaded file plays back correctly on your computer (Option 1)

  • The re-uploaded recording appears in your Claap Library and the video loads without a processing spinner (Option 1)

  • The extracted video file opens and plays correctly in the same browser (Option 2)

Why It Happens

Root cause: Chrome Extension recordings are uploaded from your computer to Claap's servers via the pinned Claap tab that appears during recording. If that pinned tab is closed before the upload finishes, or if the internet connection is interrupted during recording or upload, the transfer fails and the recording stays stuck in processing.

Prevention: Leave the Claap pinned tab open until it closes automatically. This signals that the upload is complete. The pinned tab appears to the left of all other tabs during a Chrome Extension recording:

Do not close the pinned tab manually doing so interrupts the transfer and causes an incomplete, unprocessed recording.

Alternatives

  • Use the Claap Bot instead of the Chrome Extension. The Claap Bot processes video directly on the server, eliminating the risk of failed uploads caused by pinned tab closures or connection interruptions.

  • Wait longer before attempting recovery. Processing speed depends on video duration, your internet upload speed, connection stability, and current load on Claap's servers. If none of these recovery methods apply, wait up to 10 minutes before concluding the recording is stuck.

Escalate If Unresolved

If neither recovery option works and the recording remains stuck, contact Claap support with the following information:

  • The URL of the stuck recording page

  • Approximate recording duration and file size (if known)

  • Whether the Claap pinned tab was closed before the upload completed

  • Whether the internet connection was interrupted during recording or upload

  • A screenshot of the stuck recording page

Contact options:

  • Click the ? icon or type ? anywhere in the Claap app, then select [Message support] in the Help & Support popup
