Claap's Trash feature provides a safety net when deleting recordings, giving you 30 days to recover content before it's permanently removed. This article explains how to move recordings to trash, recover them, and permanently delete content when needed.
Moving recordings to Trash
From individual recordings
To move a recording to Trash:
Navigate to the recording you want to delete
Click the options menu "..." on the recording page
Select "Move to Trash"
From folder deletion
When you delete an entire folder, all recordings within that folder are automatically moved to Trash:
Go to the folder you want to delete
Click the options menu "..."
Select "Delete folder"
❗ Important: When deleting a folder, all folder information, including its title and description, saved views, and automation configurations, are permanently and immediately deleted upon confirmation. Only the recordings are moved to Trash for potential recovery.
What happens when you move a recording to Trash?
The recording becomes inaccessible to all users
The recording disappears from global search results
The recording is removed from its folder (if it was in one)
The recording can no longer be referenced anywhere
After 30 days, the recording is permanently deleted and can no longer be recovered
Accessing Your Trash
To view and manage your deleted recordings:
Navigate to your Library by clicking on Recordings
Click the "Trash" tab
In the Trash section, you'll see a reminder that recordings remain in trash for 30 days before automatic permanent deletion.
Who can see recordings in Trash?
The Trash section shows all deleted recordings from across your workspace and which you originally had access to, not just recordings you deleted yourself. This means you'll see:
Recordings you moved to Trash yourself
Recordings other team members moved to Trash
Recordings that were moved to Trash when folders were deleted by others
but only those which you originally had access to based on recording or inherited permissions from the recording's folder.
What this means:
If you had access to a recording before it was deleted, you'll see it in Trash unless you no longer have access to the folder it was in
If you didn't have permission to view a recording originally, you won't see it in Trash even if it's been deleted
Your ability to restore recordings depends on your original permissions
Recovering recordings from Trash
To restore a recording from Trash:
Go to Library > Trash
Find the recording you want to restore
Click the options menu "..." on the recording tile
Select "Restore"
What happens when you restore a recording:
The recording returns to its previous state
It's moved back to its original folder if the folder still exists, otherwise it is restored without being assigned to a folder
The recording becomes searchable and accessible again
All original permissions are maintained
Users who previously had access can access it again
Permanently deleting recordings
Manual permanent deletion
To permanently delete a recording before the 30-day period expires:
Go to Library > Trash
Find the recording you want to permanently delete
Click the options menu "..." on the recording tile
Select "Permanently delete"
❗ Permanent deletion of a recording is immediate and cannot be undone. The recording and all associated resources are completely removed. Not even Claap Support will be able to recover a permanently deleted recording.
Automatic Deletion
Recordings automatically become permanently deleted after 30 days in Trash. After this period:
The recordings cannot be recovered
All associated resources are completely removed
This process is automatic and cannot be stopped
Important Notes
Workspace visibility: Trash shows all deleted recordings from your workspace that you had access to
Permissions are preserved: When you restore a recording, all original access permissions remain intact
Search visibility: Trashed recordings don't appear in search results until restored
Folder relationships: Restored recordings return to their original folders unless those folders no longer exist
30-day limit: Always remember that Trash is temporary storage—plan your recovery actions accordingly
Troubleshooting
Can't find a recording in Trash?
Check if it was permanently deleted by someone with access
Verify you have the necessary permissions to view the recording
Confirm you originally had access to the recording before it was deleted
Restored recording isn't in the expected folder?
The original folder may have been deleted
You may no longer have access to the original folder
Check your private recordings or create a new folder assignment
See recordings you didn't delete?
This is normal—Trash shows all deleted workspace recordings you have permission to view
Other team members may have deleted recordings you previously had access to
Can I still recover a recording after I deleted it permanently?
No! Unfortunately, after deleting a recording permanently, even the Claap Support team will be unable to restore it.
