I can't grant webcam and mic permissions

Fix: Claap can't access webcam or microphone

Reset Chrome's screen recording permission in macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording: uncheck Google Chrome, restart Chrome, then re-check Google Chrome. Where: macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen RecordingVerify: Open Claap and start a recording the camera and microphone activate without a permission error.

Symptoms

  • Claap cannot access the webcam or microphone when starting a recording

  • Camera or mic permission prompt does not appear, or appears and cannot be accepted

  • Claap recording fails silently with no camera or audio input

  • Webcam and mic work in other apps but not in Claap

Environment

  • Applies to macOS users running Claap via the Google Chrome browser extension

  • May also affect users whose IT department enforces managed browser or OS security policies

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Open System Settings on your Mac and navigate to Privacy & Security > Screen Recording.

  2. Find Google Chrome in the list and uncheck it to remove Chrome's screen recording permission.

  3. Quit and restart Google Chrome completely.

  4. Return to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording.

  5. Find Google Chrome in the list again and check it to re-grant screen recording permission.

  6. Reopen Claap in Chrome and attempt to start a recording. Chrome will prompt you to allow camera and microphone access : click Allow.

Confirm it's fixed

  • Claap starts recording with camera and audio active. No permission error appears

  • The webcam feed is visible in the Claap recording preview

  • Microphone input registers in the Claap recording interface

Why it happens

macOS occasionally resets browser permissions particularly after OS or Chrome updates which severs Chrome's access to screen recording, camera, and microphone. Removing and re-adding the permission forces macOS to reissue it cleanly.
