Overview
The Claap desktop app for macOS lets you record your screen without needing the Chrome extension. It's especially useful if you want to capture activity in other applications such as Figma, Notion, or your Finder anything beyond your browser.
Installing the Claap Desktop App
Follow these steps to get the app up and running on your Mac:
Go to claap.io and sign in to your account.
Click on your profile picture in the top-right corner.
Select "Install app for macOS" from the dropdown menu.
The download will start automatically.
Once downloaded, open the file in Finder.
Double-click on "Install Claap" to launch the installer.
Follow the prompts and grant the necessary permissions (screen recording, microphone, camera) when asked.
Once installed, the Claap app will appear in your Mac menu bar at the top of your screen, so it's always just one click away.
Recording Your Screen with the Desktop App
Once the app is installed, here's how to start a recording:
Click the Claap icon in your menu bar.
Give your recording a name (e.g., "desktop test").
Configure your camera and audio settings as needed.
Select "Entire Screen" (or a specific window/app) as your recording area.
Hit Record the app will capture everything on your screen, whether you're working in Figma, Notion, your browser, or Finder.

Stopping and Saving Your Recording
When you're done:
Click the Stop button.
Click Save.
Your recording will be automatically uploaded and available directly in your Claap account, ready to share with your team.
